Working as Understory's Test Engineer in our Madison, WI office, you will keep our weather stations impervious to problems. By developing a well documented and organized Design Verification Plan and Report, you will anticipate risks and drive decisions throughout the design, development, analysis, and release of new products. Within our engineering team, your role will lead functional testing efforts, including developing applicable testing methods and executing those tests in a timely manner. Supplier quality issues, design changes, and life cycle requirements will be no match for you, because you have a plan in place to handle all issues that may pop up. While you rock this role, you will work alongside a diverse team that delivers disruptive products that bring together custom built hardware, unique data analytics, and user-friendly cloud platforms.


Your main role responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a Design Verification Plan and Report for new weather sensing components and products
  • Assisting in the creation of product design specifications
  • Developing testing plans with emphasis on manufacturing quality and reliability
  • Testing functional prototypes and manufactured units to continuously assess conformance to defined specifications
  • Helping design and fabricate test fixtures
  • Working with our other engineers and manufacturers to resolve product issues
  • Maintaining detailed test documentation for future questions and decisions
  • Facilitating compliance-related testing and documentation

  • Have vast knowledge of, or experience with engineering standards, Six Sigma, DFMEA, DVP&R, Gage R&R, and PRD
  • Are quick to learn new technologies and are comfortable with collaborative messaging systems
  • Are fun, enthusiastic, disciplined, and a team player
  • Desire to work in an early-stage company
  • Have Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in engineering


We’ll be even more excited if you:

  • Have experience with Python and/or Linux
  • Have an electrical engineering background
  • Understand and utilize instrumentation cabling best practices and troubleshooting methods
  • Have experience with embedded systems and sensors
  • Have experience machining with a lathe or CNC mill


Compensation includes:

  • Base salary commensurate with experience
  • Full-time benefits
  • Position requires being based in Madison, WI; relocation not offered
